Addiction to gambling

Sarah had been dealing with her gambling addiction for quite some time. She’d kept it well hidden, but it was now eating into her finances and becoming difficult to stop. She was getting help to conquer her addiction, but had to sort out her finances too.

She’d borrowed from us stating that it was for a different reason, and nothing had turned up in her financial check to suggest there was a problem.

We didn’t want to add pressure to her situation. So when she called us up, and spoke to our customer contact centre, we listened.

We understood that this had caused financial problems, so we agreed a repayment plan with her. This froze the interest on her account and gave her more time to repay the loan.

While this was recorded on her credit file, it caused far less difficulty for it than missed or late repayments would have done. And the extra time to repay gave her more flexibility to sort out her finances.

Sarah was relieved. Speaking to someone about gambling issues can be difficult, especially when you’re worried about the response. Finding out that people were willing to listen and help if they could was a big help.
