The True Cost of Payday Loans

Posted by – January 9, 2012

It’s often asked why payday loans are so expensive; with huge annual interest rates sometimes quoted, implying that rich companies are profiting at their customers’ expense.

When investigating why short term loans cost what they do, it’s worth pointing out that it’s very misleading to talk of APR in relation to these kind of loans, as the loans are made over a much shorter period of time. The annualised interest rate is easily in the triple-digit range, but these astronomical figures really bear little relation to the actual cost of the loan products.

Using the same reasoning, you could quote the price of a taxi at £15,000 per 1,000 miles, or £50,000 for a ton of oysters,…

Thrifty is the new Gifty

Bob works in a super market and he has a very funny nick name, “Bob- the blunder.” He is well-known for his spending habit which he later repents for having spent on a Dog’s dinner.

Interestingly, Bob’s sister, Angie is just the opposite of Bob and it is so funny to see them shopping together. Every time Bob picks up something unnecessary, Angie simply restores it in its own place before even reaching the cash counter. No wonder she is called “Angie- the stingy.”

But what makes Angie special, is her ability to control her expense, where as Bob does not. There are many among us like Bob and some like Angie. Bobs are more of spenders, whereas Angies’ are more of savers.

What is right and wrong about this picture?

Well, being a spender is not…

Cricket, so far clearly an ‘English’ Game

Posted by – December 15, 2010

Everything about the second Ashes test was memorable for the English team. On one hand, Kevin demonstrated why he is one of the best batsmen in the world and on the other, England finally silenced critics who had questioned the team’s inability to win games by huge margins.

The game clearly turned out to be very ‘English’, with Kevin Pietersen setting the tone for a one-sided encounter between arch rivals England and Australia. The rest of the team played its part too. Alastair Cook scored his second successive ‘flawless’ hundred, while Swann and Anderson had a field day grabbing wickets by the bunch as England steamrolled its opponents by an innings and 71 runs.

Cheering from the stands was the ebullient Barmy Army, celebrating every run scored off the wands of the batsman and every wicket…

A review on falling UK house prices

Posted by – December 6, 2010

Consequential to the rapidly sliding economical conditions in the country, house prices are leaving footprints in the same direction. While the Bank of England announced a noticeable dip in the number of loans approved in the month of October so did the approval of mortgages in the following month.

The recent hot news of the house prices hitting a low seems to be ambiguous as the country’s two house price indices have given two different reports based on their target group. The Nationwide indices denote that the average house price has dropped to about £163,000 while the LSL Acadametrics reports that the house prices have been increasing since April 2010 and are increasingly becoming expensive.

While Nationwide lists house prices based on its mortgage customers, LSL Acadametrics lists the house prices based on cash sales as about…
